European Union needs 8 times more car charging points per year to meet demand, ACEA finds

10.05.2024

The EU approved a law that will ban the sale of combustion engine cars in its member states from 2035. To achieve zero CO2 emissions by 2050, new energy vehicles, such as electricity, hydrogen or solar energy, are developed for replacement.

Among current new energy vehicles, eVehicle is the most mature one. Canalys predicts that the 2024 European light vehicle market will sustain a growth of 2% to 3%, with EVs taking up 24.2% of the market share. European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) estimated it needs 8 times more charging points installed in 2023. In the same year, 150,000 charging points were implemented in EU region. However, ACEA expected 8.8 million charging points are needed to satisfy the European market in 2030.

To seize this market demand, ASMPT Ltd has launched Power Package Solution for Automotive.
